Welcome to the Department of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine.
Our program brings together researchers from diverse backgrounds to study the brain and its function in health and disease. Our faculty employs inter-disciplinary approaches to develop a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental processes occurring at all levels of brain function.
These funds are competitively awarded from a variety of sources including predominantly the National Institutes of Health but also from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, and several major private foundations.
Dr. Andreas Tolias, Assistant Professor in the BCM Department of Neuroscience and his colleagues published a paper in the current issue (January 29, 2010) of Science showing that the activity of adjacent neurons in the primary visual cortex is uncorrelated. "This is a surprising finding, given what we believe we know about the wiring diagram of the cortex."
Dr. Mingshan Xue, who recently completed his dissertation research in the lab of Neuroscience Professor, Dr. Christian Rosenmund, was honored at the recent SFN meeting by receiving the highly competitive Peter and Patricia Gruber International Research Award in Neuroscience.
